Oltalia signed an agreement, Alten Energias Renovables chose Voltalia to provide construction and operation maintenance services for solar power plants in East Africa. Based on its mission to improve the global environment and promote local development, Voltalia will contribute to the achievement of Kenya’s 2020 renewable energy goals and the creation of local employment opportunities.

During the competition, Voltalia was selected to build and operate a plant in Uasin Gishu, Eldoret, Kenya’s fifth-largest city. The construction phase has just begun and is expected to be commissioned by the end of 2020. Voltalia will also provide operations and maintenance services through a 10-year contract. Through the project, Voltalia demonstrated its ability as a service provider to undertake large projects for third-party customers.

This solar light project accounts for 2% of Kenya’s total capacity. This additional capacity will help achieve the goal of the Kenyan government to achieve solar light applications by 2020 (70% in 2017).

Voltalia will favour local Kenyan Voltalia and subcontractor staff. Voltalia expects up to 300 people to participate in the Alten project during peak hours and create up to 15 permanent local jobs during the operations and maintenance phases.
